Zach Sobiech, the Lakeland teenager who lost his battle with cancer in May, has been named one of CNN’s “Extraordinary People” for 2013 (via The Pioneer Press). If you know anything about Zach—maybe you were one of the 5,000 people who came to MOA to sing his chart-topping song, or maybe you watched Soul Pancake’s documentary about his last days—then you know CNN couldn’t be more correct. Zach was extraordinary.
Three years after his diagnosis of osteosarcoma in the fall of 2009, Zach wrote “Clouds” as a goodbye to friends and family. The song has received more than 9.2 million hits on YouTube, reached number one on the iTunes singles chart, and, most importantly, inspired millions.
“Extraordinary People” will air at 9 p.m. tonight on CNN.
