The biggest news around Mayor Rybak’s new budget proposal is that, unlike the significant property tax increases of previous years, the same levy rate will be maintained for 2012, which will be doable in part by city staff layoffs. (No tax increase is the goal, anyway. Property taxes amounts could still be higher next year over this year do to the termination of state tax credits by the Legislature.) There’s some other good news in the budget: the mayor has earmarked $150 million in money for much needed road repairs. Yay for fixing potholes!
