Minnesota is the birthplace of many claims to fame, Bob Dylan, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Paul Bunyan, but none born here are more powerful and influential than the great Mississippi River. RiverFirst Initiative is showing the Mississippi the respect it deserves with its project to completely transform and expand the 5.5 miles of Mississippi upper riverfront, creating new riverfront trails, three new multifunctional parks, and multiple local and regional connections to the river.

The RiverFirst Initiative has recently debuted a sparkling new website, which is as clear and vibrant as the river it’s improving. The site illustrates simply and creatively RiverFirst’s vision for its groundbreaking urban design strategy, RiverFirst’s projects like the Fairview Park Expansion and I-94 Landbridge, and also ways in which you can support the Initiative.

The RiverFirst Initiative is an interagency partnership of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, City of Minneapolis, and the Minneapolis Parks Foundation. RiverFirst hopes its 5-year project will not only add recreational amenities, but will also promote greater economic growth in the surrounding area, as well as foster a larger bird and fish habitat along the natural riverfront.
