It may have been Gov. Dayton’s signature that made gay marriage legal in Minnesota, but that doesn’t mean he’ll end up at many of the celebrations. Despite playing a key role in legalization, Dayton told WCCO that he hasn’t received any invitations to same-sex weddings thus far. While Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak has leapt at the opportunity to officiate same-sex ceremonies, Dayton doesn’t think he has the authority to officiate.

With Minnesota clergy divided over whether to officiate or not, Dayton’s participation might be missed. That said, Dayton claims he doesn’t get invited to too many heterosexual weddings, either. After a couple of marriages that didn’t work out, maybe Dayton just isn’t enthusiastic about weddings.
