Faithful to his Minnesota roots, Andrew Kitzenberg spent a portion of his night watching the Minnesota Wild game. Shortly after turning off the television, however, he heard gunshots outside his window. He couldn’t have known, initially, that one of the most publicized manhunts was taking place in his neighborhood in Boston. Authorities were in the midst of tracking down two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing—a wild chase that led them to the suburb of Watertown, Massachusetts, where Kitzenberg now lives.

Kitzenberg sought safety at a neighbor’s place after hearing the gunfire, and then began tweeting updates there. The text and images were striking; in one of his posts, he shows a photo of an armchair with a bullet hole through it. In a more recent tweet, Kitzenberg said he was forced to evacuate from yet another building as authorities continued their hunt.
