In college if we were flush with cash we would order Pizza Hut bread sticks, if out of cash it was ramen noodles in the basement kitchen of Blakeley Hall. I don’t remember getting much for free food around campus unless it was finals time or a special occasion. There was a sculpture of the state of Minnesota made out of cheese at the party to celebrate a new chancellor. Maybe the Coffman Union catering budget would be a good place to start cutting costs.

Dougie, but what about Don’s Cafe? No need to be flush with cash when you could get two meals for $5. So tasty.
And yeah, rarely got free food. Not even a sculputure of cheese. We did get a pancake breakfast once when there was a U of M president visiting. Problem was, it was at breakfast time, and I wasn’t getting up early for just pancakes.

Don’s was a good option of you had transportation and a sober driver. That huge plate of fries was always a welcome sight after an evening of over indulging. The Country Kitchen (Atlantic Avenue) was also an option but I nearly got into a fight with a townie coke dealer there once as he was harassing one of my friends and then he hit the waitress. The Pizza Ranch buffet was also something I miss. The Subway didn’t get built until I think my Senior year.

Pizza Ranch chicken is the best in the state. So good. And I don’t know what this “sober driver” thing you talk about is. I’m pretty sure drunk driving was legal in the city limits.

Once driving back to Key Row from the Met my roommate got pulled over. The officer was a friend, he drove behind us to escort us back to our apartment.
