After 40 years, Sweet Lou Snider is hanging her hat and saying farewell to Nye’s. Every Friday and Saturday night Lou saddled up to the piano bench and sang her heart out to the fine patrons of Nye’s Polonaise Room. Tomorrow will be the last night she plays some of the classics like: “These Boots Were Made For Walk’in”, “Unforgettable”, or “When I Fall in Love”.

A great story.

There were a couple of years, many years ago, when Nye’s was a go-to destination for Friday night frivolity for yours truly and a small gang of radio folk. Lou was always a treat to see — and hear — at the piano and, even then, she recalled an even earlier era of lounge music. Also remembered was the polka band playing in the next room which counted among its members one of the fiercest-looking female accordian players I’ve ever seen.
