If you maybe haven’t been to the theater in awhile or find the average ticket price a bit shocking, Mixed Blood is the perfect place to wet your feet, and its season closer, Learn To Be Latina is the perfect production to do it. The bizarre and cynical world of fame is put on display when promising Lebanese pop singer Hanna gets a cultural makeover. Told her image would sell better as a Latina, Hanna ventures forward with trepidation. Billed as an outrageous comedy, the show’s content is contemporary and sharply satirical, but presented in a slapstick manner: social commentary packaged in wackiness.
Always looking to be on the cutting edge, Mixed Blood continues with its “radical hospitality” program, meaning the tickets are first come, first served. Donations are accepted, though. The show runs through May 13, but why not stop procrastinating and enjoy some truly accessible theater? 7:30 p.m. Donations accepted. –LB
