A Minnesota author breaks through with his debut novel, Monument Road, and now he’s here to talk about it. Charlie Quimby grew up in western Colorado, where this book takes place, before he set off for Minnesota’s Carleton College and made a new home in the Twin Cities. His novel follows a man out to spread his wife’s ashes on the desolate Monument Road, dealing with depression, faith, and personal resilience—themes perhaps gleaned from Quimby’s own experience after his father’s suicide. His prose stands up to the emotional task with heartfelt delicacy, gently drawing out the character of Leonard Self as a broken man that must reforge his life’s meaning. 7 p.m. Free. —EK
