Don't be distracted by the over 4,000 sets of salt and pepper shakers at the Lake Elmo Inn. Concentrate on the food. The Inn's cuisine has been a stellar standout for years, winning loyal fans from all over the Cities. Both classic and playful, the appetizer menu offers smoked salmon and oysters next to onion rings and egg rolls. The entrees take a more serious note with chicken Hunter Style with a melange of mushrooms, Cajun pork chops with just the right amount of heat, and roast duckling crisply done. The Sunday brunch is legendary. Finally never, ever skip the "Sin of the Inn," a devilish dessert of caramel, white satin and chocolate ganache.

John Schlitz - Owner/Chef
John graduated from the Hotel and Restaurant Cooking Class of St. Paul Technical Vocational Institute in 1975. Honored on the "Wall of Fame" at St. Paul TVI; he is the only culinarian to receive this award in over 40 years. He has worked in the restaurant industry in Colorado, San Francisco, Kansas City, and Fort Worth, before heading back to Minneapolis where he opened the Hyatt in 1981 as Executive Sous Chef. In November of 1983 John left the Hyatt and started the Lake Elmo Inn. John has received numerous awards and recognition, including Restaurateur of the Year 2006 ? Minnesota Restaurant Association, Lillie Suburban Readers Poll, Wine Enthusiast Magazine for Wine List, and Top 10 Chefs in Minnesota 2005.
Tom Schiller - Executive Chef
After his culinary schooling, Tom Schiller set out on his cooking quest with Lake Elmo Inn. Beginning as a line chef, he worked his way to Sous chef and seven years later found himself as an executive chef. He reports loving every minute of his five years in the executive chef role. One of the main reasons Tom was interested in Lake Elmo Inn was that it offered him the chance to use his ice carving talents. Each Sunday brunch at Lake Elmo Inn features one of his ice sculptures. Tom is also proud of the consistent quality of food John Schiltz (owner) has been providing for years.
