MNSpeak: Talk

President T-Paw

We haven't even managed to figure out our senatorial race yet, but The McLaughlin Group is saying we can already expect Tim Pawlenty to be in serious consideration for Repub candidate for President in the next election. Premature?

Would love to know what's going through his mind...to run effectively in 2012 he's got to win in 2010...or he could not run in 2010 and try to run as a former guv instead of sitting (but that's just lame as hell). Gonna be an interesting couple of years in MN politics.

Way premature. McLaughlin is basing it on CPAC? Didn't Timmy poll next to dead last in preference there?

Besides, given that the GOP's admitted plan is not to actually present any ideas or workable policies, but to simply sling s*!t from the sidelines like a bored chimpanzee, in an attempt to drag down Democratic poll numbers, Timmy won't be moving to DC in this lifetime.

Too early to say. Who would have predicted the team of McCain-Palin just a year out from the last election?

You think he'd take someone's VP nod this time around? Whether he runs or not?

In a heartbeat, CINF.

I watched it yesterday.McLaughlin did a glowing video vignette to TPaw but the rest of the panel shot down his chances; the jist being nice guy but boring personality.

Then again, most had HRC as a lock for the Democratic nod 2 years ago.

Pawlenty has never received 50% of the vote in any of his gubernatorial elections. His two victories had strong 3rd party candidates also in the race. If the DFL (or another party) could put up a decent candidate, he will likely not win in 2010. He has an appeal to the Republican base (like John McLaughlin), but little outside of that. A decent candidate could shred him to bits. Yeah, he'll be perfect!

T-Paw has a very witty personality. These pundits do not yet know him.

He will run for President. He has consistently been planing trade mission overseas to up his foreign street cred and has one scheduled for Israel. Last I looked, the trade pipeline between Israel and MN is pretty light, so there is no reason for that trip, on the tax-payers dime, other than to boost his foreign-relations experience.

He will not run for Gov. in 2010 because it is very difficult to win 3-terms, let alone in a blue state. That would be career suicide.

Look to him to book as many national news appearances as possible so the American public becomes familiar with him. He should be seen fishing & hunting as often as possible too.

T-Paw is tired of local...how many contentious budget battles can one endure. He has his eye on the prize. That coy act is not even convincing anymore.

Douglas, the DFL put up a good candidate? Why the hell would we do that?

This off topic, but which one is Donuts - Douggie_D or DouglasG? I can't keep the Dougs straight for some reason.

Agree Douglas, he'd be shredded in a national campaign.

The Democrats can easily point to all of the various metrics that Minnesota fell from at or near the top to mediocrity or worse under his "no new taxes" reign.

His problem with not running for re-election in '10 is this: how does he maintain a national profile without the Governor's office? Does he have the sugar daddies to give him a no-work job that will fund the necessary traveling?

It didn't work for Edwards, Mittens, or Rudy. Not sure why he'd think it would work for him.

Well in the metaphysical sense all people named Doug are one entity with various Avatars. We regroup into a shining pillar of light once every 11.5 years in a secret location to meld all of our thoughts and knowledge.

There is a reason that douglas means dark water. We are mysterious!

One g in Dougie please!

The post on the zombie apocalypse gets more comments than the one on Pawlenty as President.

That says something about him, or about us, I'm not sure which...

Well, how can a thread about soulless, brain-hungry creatures hell bent on destroying mankind compete with a thread about zombies?
