At last, the Gangster Burger

The PiPress takes a look at the behemoth (with a photo!): Jason Tall, the chef of the Rice Street Deli, took a full 20 minutes Friday to fry up his culinary opus: two half-pound hamburger patties, three six-ounce steaks, a half-pound of gyro meat, a half-pound of Italian beef, and six slices of cheese - on a sesame seed bun. This is a truly heroic accomplishment for the people of St. Paul. I think they should build a statue of the Gangster Burger on John Ireland Blvd.

I'm curious about that gyro meat. Usually the quality varies wildly.

The gangsta fries sound kind of tasty.

Though the sandwich goes for $15.99, Tall said he tries hard to discourage people from ordering them.  "I don't make too many of these . I don't make any money on them. Look at all that meat!"

I'm curious as to why they would have something on their menu that they discourage people from ordering because they lose money on it.

In a word, publicity.

Huh, seems kind of backward to me, though.

I had a home made caesar salad with coutons and dried cranberries for lunch. Total cost about $1.35.

There is a new food network show where a guy goes around the country and takes on the various massive food challenges at restaurants. How many more dives and diners shows can they have?

they should charge top dollar for it. don't need to sell a single one for the publicity it generates. Kinda like when Le Parker Merdien hotel in NYC was pushing their $1,000 omelette.http://www.parkermeridien.com/New%20York%20Daily%20News%20-%20City%20News%20-%20Le%20Grand%20Omelet.htm

If you enable the rich text editor at the bottom of the comment box, you can be an idiot like me and link.

You probably wouldn't want to be an idiot like me, though.

I agree with aliecat, though. Why would you put that thing on your menu for $15.99? Order it, eat what you can, and bring the rest home to feed you for the rest of the week!

This is just stupid. Why 3 kinds of meat that don't even go together. I'm reminded of this SNL commercial every time someone tries to come up with some ginormus disgusting menu item:

Rat, he charges $15.99 for that thing much longer, his demise is assured.
