New Valleyfair Roller Coaster in 2007!

Roller-coaster enthusiasts have reason to scream.

Valleyfair officials announced Thursday that the Shakopee amusement park is adding a wooden roller coaster replete with a steep twisting opening drop, making it one of the first parks in the county to have a coaster with that innovation. Construction on the $6.5 million Renegade, designed by Great Coasters International Inc. of Sunbury, Pa., will begin as soon as the city of Shakopee approves permits for the ride.

This looks so cool! Click here for one of the animations of the new coaster.

Fun fact: The song Renegade was a 1979 hit for American rock band Styx.

I'm sure I'll offend the baseball-loving classicists on MNspeak by saying I'd prefer a steel looping coaster, but any addition to that dead end northwest quadrant is welcome. Any truth to the rumors that they are having trouble getting permits?

Weeee! It seems like a long ride.

I was sort of hoping for something like Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America, but this will be great too.
