Dude Weather Subscribe to Secrets Minneapolis / St. Paul
For some reason another discussion broke out on a three-month-old thread. That's one of the subtle beauties of Rex's design: that comments always pop up on the home page and you can follow them back to their source. Here's sotanlife, btw.
Satanlife is not great, but the worst mistake it makes is redundancy. If you're going to provide exactly the same content as everybody else, you'd better do it heads and shoulders above everybody else, and they don't.
Satanlife? Whoops.
Actually, I would read a Web page with that name.
I don't think I mentioned it before, but when I first saw the sotanlife billboards, I thought they were the same as the Minnesota Pro Life people.
There are still people commenting on the Keillor t-shirt thread. And, strangely, The Apprentice thread.
I emailed the Purple Rain link to my buddy and asked him if we should go, but then realized the link was from three months ago.
How do you go about preventing comment spam?
Just wait until the spammers find you, then comments will be breaking out in old threads all over.
Oh, several spammers have found it. A custom-built site lets you build custom filters to handle it though. It's a war of attrition, but we can catch most of it.
I hear that Taylor was using sarcasm in his comments about sotanlife.com. Shame on you, Taylor. Shame.
I appreciate all of the constructive thoughts that many of you had to offer. We will be taking them into account when looking at future modifications. I hope someday that you all can use sotanLIFE as a tool to enhance your free time. In response to hipmn, I think its ironic someone who is looking for outside the box thinking takes a juvenile jab at our name. If you don't like our name, so be it, but find a more creative way to slam it. In response to annet, I have no problem using sarcasm to an extent to spice up writing. What I have a problem with is sarcasm for sarcasm's sake. Please feel free to email me at phil@sotanlife.com if you have any further comments, questions, input, etc...
Goddamn, Phil is lame.
yeah. way lamer than doing mnspeak comment posts at 10:41 on a saturday night.
Oh, snap!
I agree with the "sotan" references - does anybody actually refer to themselves as a "sotan"? I certaintly don't. I don't know anybody that does.
I was actually designing a "Mpls/St. Paul Nightlife" site myself. It was to be called Minnesota Pulse (http://www.mnpulse.com). Half-way through my project, however, sotanlife.com was born. I realized that, while their site was terribly designed and rather cheesy, they had obviously put a lot of time into the database and advertising (I've seen sotanLife.com advertisements at bars/restaurants/lifetime fitness even!).
I decided to go a different route and dedicate my site to local developments, both residential, and commercial etc; one of my other hobbies.
My point is this: It is a well though-out site, and has more potential than most other MN "Scene" websites. I say give it a chance, give it a while to realize that text-based advertising is more effective and more appreciated by users, and I think it will be a great source for what its intended use is.
Shameless Plug: In the meantime, check out the site that was created because I didn't want to bother to compete with sotanlife: http://www.mnpulse.com/
My search for the definition of the word "sotan" came up with a Japanese tea master's grandson. Somehow I didn't think the site was connected to that idea/aesthetic. I realized now that it's a take on "Minne-sotan". It took me a minute...(ugh)
Why would you pick a name for a site that for sure will be nicknamed "satanlife"? Oi. Never occured when they were registering that domain??
Phil, I wasn't taking potshots. I simply misspelled your name.
And Saturday nights are overrated. xtine. Monday night is the new Saturday.
Who am I kissing? I'm so lonely.
I think SotanLife is awesome! It is a class project for a bunch of ESL students, right?
If it isn't, well, there will surely be some pissed-off Sotan dentists who want their money back once it goes under.
Pissed-off sotan denists? Is that where sotanLife got their initial advertising dollars?
Kissing? I meant kidding.
Shit. Damn these enormous man-hands and this tiny keyboard.
To degrate ELS and than make some abstract comment about dentists? Give me a break?! Ross, what are you trying to say??
All right, it is time to expand my RSS Reader again with local blogs I haven't read before. If you kow of or have a local blog that produces local content (and it doesn't need to all be local content; just occasional), go ahead and pimp it here.…
