Chocolate Cupcake Taste-off

After a scientific survey of local bakeries, Girl Friday has the skinny on where to get the best cupcakes in the Twin Cities. Judging only by the pictures, the Chocolate Ganache Cupcake from the Franklin Steet Bakery looks amazing.

Huh, Alexis actually texted me last night to say she couldn't come out and play pinochle because she was working on "the best post evah." It is pretty delicious.

I read the story yesterday and decided at once that I needed to go to the Franklin Street Bakery today.

Hmm, Franklin Street Bakery. Went there last night to pick up some bread. I love that place.

We have a woman who works at our office who makes chocolate chip zucchini bread. Now that's amazing. I told her once she ought to do it professionally, then realized, "Am I stupid?"

Yes! I highly recommend Franklin Street Bakery's Chocolate Ganache Cupcake. They also had an Earl Grey Cupcake that I was curious about, but, in the interest of science, I stuck with chocolate. Thanks for the link.

i don't want to try and create a controversy out of cupcakes, but i have mixed feelings about that place.

they do have great pastries, but i get a bad taste in my mouth when i hear that, while their revenues are increasing through the roof, they brought in union busters not too long ago when their workers tried to unionize. coming from the perspective that workers generally don't attempt to unionize for the fun of it, i wonder about the place. (i wonder if they get tips)

i love the franklin street bakery. they are always a stop on my way home from work in the summer for a fresh baguette.
i also used to love when they were located just a block and a half from me and they used to make the neighborhood smell like cinnamon rolls... albeit briefly.

The only problem I have with the Frankling Street Bakery is that it's located on Franklin Avenue.

Is this an example of Focus Group Branding gone horribly wrong?

what do you have against franklin?

I think MunsingW is against the name using "Street" versus "Avenue". The "Franklin" part is presumably just fine.

sorry. moron here... i'll go back to work now.

No, I'm sorry about that. That would have been a great chance to use the italics function to make things clearer.

Opportunity lost.

As another connoisseur of cupcakes, I have to second the Franklin Street Bakery recommendation. I ordered a couple dozen for a birthday party one year and they were fantastic. I have never had an FSB cupcake that tasted "off." The ones from Cupcake, on the other hand, seem to be kept on hand for several days and lose any flavor they may have once had. I've never had a fresh cupcake there. I miss the fact that Field's no longer sells FSB cupcakes in their Marketplace Cafe downtown. They have been replaced by the subpar Wuollet cupcakes (and other baked goods).

Best cupcake I ever had was at Solera last winter. Haven't seen it on the menu since.

i've not had many on Alexis' list, but i had one of those Chocolate Ganache Cupcakes sometime last year and it was insanely good.

Okay, the Chocolate Ganache Cupcake is fabulous, but too much for one man. I feel like I just ate an entire birthday cake.

Oops, I forgot to mention that it's an oversized cupcake.

Ooh, now I want one all over again. I've received a few emails suggesting other Minneapolis bakeries. I'm open for suggestions for another Taste-off, and would welcome guest tasters.

Uh, 'guest taster'.....

Is that what the kids are calling it these days?
