Nominations for the 2006 Bloggies have begun. While DailyKos and BoingBoing will surely get heaps of nominations, what local blogs do you think are worthy of best American blog, best topical blog, best tagline, or best political blog? We've got some good ones in the TC, and while few of them will likely win, let's recognize 'em right here.
Good post. Here are some of my faves:

Sexy Talk Blog of the Year: Girl Friday | Pussy Ranch (Tie!)
(It's probably a bad idea for me to do that list, because there are dozens of other good blogs I didn't list, and those people will likely beat me up next time I'm at the pub. So please check out the aggregator for lots of other good stuff that wasn't as easy to categorize.)
Aw, shucks! "The Best Worst Blog"! It's funny because it's true. Thanks, rex! It's just an honor to be nominated.
Aw. I'm blushing. And such good company!
"Relentless Blogger of the Year"; I practically spit out my Cherry Coke laughing.
Alexis, how is it that you are always drinking cherry coke when you read something funny? What a strange coincidence...
I would like to nominate two more music blogs: Walsh Files and Perfect Porridge.
And I'm pretty much always drinking Cherry Coke when I'm home during the day. And if I'm home during the day, I'm online. When I'm online at night, I'm usually drinking something else, but scotch costs more than Cherry Coke so I just try not to laugh.
Taylor I said we should be friends but I just can't be your boyfriend, ok? (heh.) (I think I'm only elible for "Oldest Twin Cities Blog Without Any Major Merit or Purpose" at this point.)
My favorite hate mail came from Camille Keaton after I spat lovingly upon her recently deceased husband's grave I decided not to post her hate mail b/c I'm still kinda afeard of Sid "One-Punch" Luft's angry ghost...
I will always love you, Mark -- whether in the open or in secret.
Rex, Alexis, and all my friends at MNspeak...I am so honored and humbled..I did not prepare a speech, as I had no idea I would stand here today...I want to thank all the people who made this day possible.
Thanks!
Bob "Relentless" Moffitt
Agreed with most everything on the list, but I'd like to add...
Best Photoblog: The Twin Cities Flickr Pool
Now THAT's what I pay the big bucks for.
Thanks Rex!
No Sexy Talk Blog of the Year nomination would be complete without www.hookersonstilts.com.
Damn, my new goal is to make it on to Rex's list next year. Of course, that would mean I need to stop having a social life and update on a regular basis...
"Blog of the Year: MNstories.com" I practically spit my own semen out of my mouth reading that! I kid.
We all know MNspeak is the blog of the year. Other than that, I love your list, esp. the addition of CHEEK.
Now here's a picture of me filming BoingBoing's Cory Doctorow, winning Best Blog at the 2004 Bloggies. You can't tell, but he's wearing a Blogumentary cap. (Blog whore much?)
Curses - MNstories exceeded it's bandwidth again!
It'll be back up in a few hours.
Today's hastily-assembled snippet compilation is here if you're feeling downloady.
GirlFriday is not sexy, Diablo Cody and Brit with Hookers on Stilts is sexy. GirlFriday is all shopping and eating. If you have a shopping and eating fetish than I guess GF would be sexy.
That's me!
Consumerism can be sexy. Though for blatant sex, it's Britt and Diablo Cody. However, this post might've made Alexis' stalkers feel all tingly -- http://girlfriday.typepad.com/my_weblog/2005/12/dirty_girl_frid.html
I think the way Alexis describes eating certain foods is about the sexist damn thing on the internet. Mmm.
Good thing I saved all those nekkid pics of Diablo from before she was famous. Now I can sell them to... I dunno... Fleshbot? Garrison Keillor? I'm so confused.
Mitch Berg's Shot in the Dark for "Phoniest Blog of the Year" (for admitting to fabricating comments posted under other peoples' names he doesn't like)
Hey thanks for the Best Gay Blog thing, rex. And I second that for Mitch Berg, Earl.
Dito on Mitch. He's done that to me, too. I know the bogus "Bob from ALAMNot" who stalked the comments of MNSpeak a while back wasn't Mitch.
Bob from ALAMNot was funny.
I will solely consult Andrea from now on regarding whether to spit or swallow my Cherry Coke while reading MNSpeak.
If you two would like to meet... I'll bring my camera.
Oh we've met. And there are pictures. There's just the matter of something called a mutual confidentiality agreement. It's kind of like the one we signed, Rex.
Heh heh heh. (dirty old man laugh)
Er, Earl and Alamn? I call bullshit!
Where have I admitted *any such thing?* You're parrotting claims from local nutbars. You'd do well not to.
Put up or shut up. (In your case, Moffett, it's way overdue...)
ooooh. Snap! Things are getting real heated here as blogger takes on blogger. Later this week AlaMN will put down his pack of cigarettes and jog over to the flagpole where he's scedule to duke it out with Mitch "the phony"...
Both will wear their blogging pajamas and let the first round be dominated by their cats lovingly featured on said blogs. (I can just imagine ALACat hunched over in the cold outside that damned bar in which he can no longer smoke...).
Round 2 will involve "your mom" insults, which bloggers are really good at.
And then we'll all lick our wounds and watch that SNL video "Lazy Sunday" that's been getting mad blog props lately.
Now let's all be friends and drink hot cocoa...
OK now that I've cleaned the santorum runoff on my leg, here's my belated nominations:
Best Blog by Local Rock Band: Shuffle Brothers
Most Depressing Hiatus: Rocks Off
Best Top Secret Resurrection: Dodging Invisible Rays
Best Gay Blog: fiveoclockbot (looks like we'll need a, er, runoff vote on this one)
Blogging Expat Who Makes Our Minnesota Lives Emptiest With Their Absence: K.S.
Bestest Photoblog: Rock Image of the Day
Best Blog by Local Scribbler Who Gets Paid for Scribbling: Yo, Ivanhoe
Best Blog by a Busy Investigative Journalist: Live Nude Weblog!
Most Concise Prose: i'm an idiot
Mitch, I'm sorry. A quick review of your blog shows no monkeying with my comments. It was other MOBsters, not you, who did this. My humble apologies for my error.
Bob Moffitt
Communications Director
American Lung Association of Minnesota
Just like that, Bob backs down.
I already had my popcorn for the big fight.
Bob shouldn't have backed down though, right? Wasn't it pretty much "proven" that Mitch did that? (I remember the scandal, but I don't remember the outcome.)
Rex, you need to get your facts straight.
When I was getting a commentlanche from a big lefty site, with people leaving insulting, scurrilous, topic-free, abusive, anonymous comments, I defaced a bunch of them (redundant, since they were themselves defacements. How does one vandlize vandalism?
A couple of Eva Young's cowardly anonymous commenters got their undies in a snarl when I rewrote their abusive comments for comedic effect. They seem to think they have a first amendment right to have the majesty of their written brainfarts preserved in perpetuity on my dime. Not so (although maybe Blois Olson will file a lawsuit). Eva took the cowards' side. Go figger.
Otherwise? Nope. Nothin'.
Sorry to pop your collective bubbles.
To elaborate: I have never, ever altered or deleted a legitimate comment. I have never altered an anonymous comment, even a critical one, that was on-topic and remotely civil, or even not-too-uncivil. I have never altered or deleted anonymous comments that were critical, overheated, obscene and profane, for that matter.
I reserve the right to remove or alter for comic effect comments that are anonymous, rude, content-free and abusive. I do it rarely.
I've banned two people from my comments, ever. Oddly, both came from Eva Young's site.
Well, I wasn't exactly expressing "facts" -- that was an interogative sentence, not a declarative sentence. This whole internet thing would be a lot better with more questions and fewer answers.
Anyway, now I remember that the "re-write" was the big issue. You seem to carry this attitude that the world (or the blogosphere) is out to get you, while at the same time practically demanding people act defensive in conversational situations. Dude, I ain't out to get you, and I don't have a "collective bubble" to burst. Chill.
Well, I wasn't exactly expressing "facts" -- that was an interogative sentence, not a declarative sentence...
...in which you asked from a standpoint of affirmative assumption whether something had happened ("Wasn't it pretty much "proven" that Mitch did that?"). Just setting things straight.
You seem to carry this attitude that the world (or the blogosphere) is out to get you,
Untrue. I'm out to get the world.
I'm voting Eyeteeth for best kept secret. Sweet blog.
All right, it is time to expand my RSS Reader again with local blogs I haven't read before. If you kow of or have a local blog that produces local content (and it doesn't need to all be local content; just occasional), go ahead and pimp it here.…
