RIP Chang O'Hara's

St. Paul's Chang O'Hara's closed last week after filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy as the result of losing sexual harassment suits to two former employees. Lucky for owner Leo Gadbois, he didn't have to give up his vacation home in Mexico, or his other restaurant, Sweeney's, in the settlement. In fact, he already has a new addition in the works: The Dale Street Wine Bar. Any bets on how long it will be until Gadbois can open the former Chang O'Hara's under 'new ownership' -- maybe "Chico O'Callahan's"?

I put a copy of the child brief up, if people are willing to read it. It has some language that might be NSFW, so I'm not posting any excerpts. It's pretty crazy how management ignored the sexual harrassment. You can read a primer here.

Here is the trial brief:

Salty pooter. I'm not entirely sure I know what that means, but it is now my favorite phrase. I think I will have it put on the back of a Vikings jersey.

OMG. As of now I'm all about "salty pooter."

Too bad, cuz I sure liked Changs. Though it did seem like a frat boy atmosphere behind the bar.

Also closed: The Pizza Shack.

I'll bet the pro-smoke clowns try to blame the closings of Changs and the Shack on the smoking ban (Changs, like Sweeney's, was thriving as a smokefree joint).

RIP, Changs. Open again as a new bar soon. I'll miss their "Simpson's Hour" beer and wings special...

Thriving? I'm not so sure. You don't hang up an "$8.00 off all pitchers of Summit" banner if business is thriving. That's what, half price?

I'm pretty sure the $8 off pitchers of Summit deal was in effect before the smoking ban. In a post-smoking ban article, the grope-y manager was quoted as saying that business was doing well, especially because of the patio being open. http://www.twincities.com/mld/pioneerpress/11503036.htm
