Anyone riding the St Paul Classic this Sunday?

kurtis  url06:56am

I'll put the over/under at posts not referencing the RNC at 12.

Anyway, my weekend involves soup, yard work, football, and cracking down on my writing project. Oh, and maybe a cocktail or two.

No. Landscaping project this weekend (oh, my aching back!). Tonight: Happy hour with friends at Suzie's.

I've been up since 5:30 preparing for the big ass garage sale we're having today; the big ass garage sale that you should totally come to and buy stuff at.

It's at 1515 Natchez Ave. S., Golden Valley

Identify yourself as a MNspeaker and I'll give you something for free. Like a cup of coffee or cold beer or a punch in the nose. Regardless, it will be free.

justpbob  url07:00am
Sep 5

Bonus to the first MNspeak who shows up at nateek's garage sale asking to buy some "big ass."

I already have a garage, but good luck selling yours!

We're in Golden Valley, 4 doors down from SLP, and we are in the Hopkins school district. I just say we're in Western Minneapolis.

No bikes. I'm hoarding those for when we have guests over and we ride to the new stadium.

No on-line auctioning, although I'll be twittering, facebooking, myspacing, googling, blogging, vlogging, texting, and smoke signalling throughout the day.

Possible activities: find the title to my old car and putting it on Craigslist; paint kitchen nook; touch up bathroom and hallway painting from last weekend; sand and paint/stain picture frames... If I get ONE of these things done I will be content.

We are going to the open house for the Traditional Foods Minnesota buying club tonight. It is sort of like a co-op and will have tons of local producers selling their foods at a discounted rate. I don't know if we will join, but we are checking it out.

Tomorrow we will be getting the dog some exercise and hopefully doing some letterboxing. Sunday, maybe we will sit around and drink some beers after our grueling weekend.

My best advice for garage sale hosting

1. Get drinking early...I am talking buzz by 10am...switch from bloody marys to premiums at noon.

2. If someone picks something up...sell it to them....give it to them if you have to, hell pay them to take it if you have to.

The only thing worse than organizing a garage sale is having to throw away/take to goodwill or re-pack crap that didn't sell.

ryanl  url08:18am
Sep 5

also sorry make sure that you got enough wierd crap....70s velvet blazers, toasters that don't work, safety googles....this is the kind of crap that pulls salers in like wildfire.

I just got into my office building. As approached the outside door there was this dude in a green sweater leaning against one of the doors blocking it while jabbing on his cell phone. I wasn't really paying attention but I glared briefly at him, only to realize that it was Andrew Zimmern. Crazy! So, yeah, Plymouth Building, Andrew Zimmern. If you read this, Zimmern. I'm not mad because you just made my morning. My sad, sad morning after the competition in which I was clearly the funniest (no really, I was the only one who got consistent laughter) but clearly not the winner.

kurtis  url09:43am
Sep 5

Oh, was that last night? How did you place? You were the funniest by far.

Bixby  url09:52am
Sep 5

I don't know how I placed but the thing you have to understand about stand-up comedy around here is that it's kind of the real-life equivalent of MNSpeak, they all know each other from going to open-mic nights and whatnot and it's pretty clear the judges knew the performers. Basically, it's akin to their being summer-long comment of the summer contest semi-finals on MNSpeak. I knew before anyone performed that I probably wasn't going to win that night. There's a chance I could make it into the top 5 and advance to finals next week but I doubt it. I'm not mad about it, I guess I could go to open mic nights myself and try to get to know more people but I already wasted all my getting-to-know-strangers energy for the year on MNSpeakers.

@kurtis: Yes, next time I'll bring bacon.

@alie: I disagree, I think George is the George W. Bush of cats. I don't think cuddly when I think of Republicans in general. Plus, from what I can tell George the cat doesn't really do jack shit all day but stay the course between his napping spot and his food/water.

You should make people pay you for the privilege of owning a Janis Ian record, nateek. You have to earn a Janis Ian record. The tears, they are flowing!

I don't feel like I was stating anything exceptional about Culpepper, but nothing like it has shown up on ESPN or Fox, and within hours of my posting it, the entire set of comments disappeared, and a column with the same theme, right down to the opening that paraphrases the saying about a man who defends himself in court, showed up with a Mark Craig byline.

champs, what's that saying about a man who represents himself has a fool for a client. Someone should have told Daunte that a few years ago.

How the hell can someone be so egotistical to think they should just be handed a three year/six mill contract when they haven't won a game in three years?

He should have gone to Green Bay. Rogers couldn't stay healthy when he was on the bench. Dude would have been starting by Halloween and had a multi year deal from the Packers or someone else next year.

As for your comments, they may have taken them down precisely because Craig was already working on a column.

I get to go argue with our former property owner about money he claims we owe him (which we don't) and money we know he owes us (which he does). It's this guy. Should be fun.

My weekend will be a series of contrasts. It will begin with a "quiet relaxing family evening," according to my wife. I asked her if we could rather have a "really loud, stressful evening." She indicated that we could sit down, drink wine, and talk about family finances.

Sunday I play golf at Hazeltine with a rich friend of my dad's. (Note to self: open golf course at Hazelden.)

I wish I played tennis. It looks fun. I'm also disappointed that ESPN is taking over the US Open. USA was great. ESPN ruins everything it touches.

What, the painting? Well, not being from here, I tend to prefer a splash of color. I say eggshell is fine, but paint one wall a different color. It really adds some life to an eggshell-dull room.

I used Satin on the front door, and I don't think I'd mind it in a few other places, but probably not in the bedroom.

There is a joke in here somewhere...

I concur, one other color wall is very nice.

eggshell finish, not eggshell color. It's between flat and satin.

I'm going to most likely go with a darker blue with some gray color. Probably will then door the closet doors in an accent color.

Well there was that one incident dowtown, but in all fairness I wasn't even wearing pants when it happened.

Good information to know...

For what it's worth, I don't mind a few Journey songs. I do, however, find their newfound semi-cultish status (courtesy Sopranos) to be a bit ludicrous.

Keep on peein'.
