Maybe we wouldn't be in this mess if JFK had focused on reducing emissions rather than going to the moon. Sure the Russians would have all the moon rocks and whatever else we got out of that deal, but we wouldn't have a giant fricking hole in the ozone layer to deal with.

Well if they talk it, it makes sense, but if they actually invest the money and do it, it seems like a colossal waste of money. The core of independent voters mostly rely upon traditional media than new and emerging media.

I think there are any number of people, myself included, who would argue that last point with you. But regardless, the conventions are colossal wastes of money. Period. It has been decades since anything of substance occurred at a national political convention. Luckily, MSP gets to reap the benefits of this one, so it's not all bad.

It's my understanding that cities hosting political conventions lose money.

It's highly dependent on the structure of the city and how well it's planned. That said -- Boston, the example used in the article you linked to, actually still netted about 15 million after costs were factored in. And that was before offsetting donations and funds were applied. Boston was poorly planned as well. Assuming MSP manages to avoid shutting down its main transportation arteries, we ought to stay nicely in the black.

I'd imagine so. Especially given the marketing push behind the "More to Life" campaign.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem if you've decided that this would be a fine place to make your home, I'm just asking if this isn't a change in position/attitude.

You make my point for me, Wayno. Boston just ain't a good place to hold this sort of event. Now, I'll grant you that MSP has some serious transit issues, but I think it'll weather the storm slightly better, especially being in Saint Paul, than Boston did.

And certainly more profitably.
