Looking for meth?

Well, a fish tank is sort of like meth.

So any fucking retard can now tell the police you are cooking meth and they will issue a no knock search warrent?

America is over. Love live Amerika.

Adams is looking for a lawyer.

Why?

Well, an inexperienced judge issued an essentially baseless no knock search warrant to a completely inexperienced Drug Enforcement officer to look for a meth lab on the word of a hot water heater installer.

I guess in your perfect world there should be no government accountability for its actions.

It was unnecessary. Proper policework would have led them to execute a more traditional warrant. But they would rather use their short cuts and get all macho...

I don't understand suing the government. It just means your neighbors take it in the shorts.

I do in two cases 1.If they do not make proper restitution.
2.In order to force them to make changes to their policy.

But beyond that is stupid and bad citizenship.

I think the point is more along the lines of preventing the same thing from happening to your neighbors.

I don't think it was a matter of wanting to get macho. Meth addicts are f*cked up and meth labs are highly dangerous. When we were dealing with meth laws a few years ago I remember hearing law enforcement talk about going into meth homes and findnig televisions and VCRs blown apart by gunfire because the addicts thought these basic home electronics were trying to control their mind with their magical pictures. Going in with an increased level of force is probably the safest thing to do in any case.

Oh, I do understand it from that perspective. It's just the punitive aspect of it that puzzles me. Not that I know of a better way.

You don't think that a "tip" from a "professional water heater guy" that leads to a bullshit search, is not reason enough to get a lawyer. We have lowered the level of probable cause to joke status. Good citizenship is fighting an oppressive government.

It's not about the door, it's about the Fourth Amendment.

From the article it seems like the city has already sent over a contracter to replace the door. Hopefully the workman doesn't mistake the over-the-sink lights for grow lights and the place gets raided for weed.

Do you know what the real moral of this story is?

Cancel that Center Point Energy Maintenance Plan.
You could likely buy a water heater and a new furnance every 5 years for what you are paying for that bullshit protection plan. Find a good competent local plumber and HVAC guy and stop paying them to do nothing.

Total Repair Plan
For the most complete coverage, choose the Total Repair Plan, which allows you to cover all of your homes major appliances for just $37.95 per month for a year. This Repair Plan covers all of the following appliances, including multiples of each:

That's $450 a year!

It just pisses me off that taxpayers have to keep scrounging up millions of bucks to pay for these lawsuits. That doesn't mean the people doing the suing don't have a right to be pissed, just that it's not remotely my fault.

"Ohmigod," Adams said as she recalled police breaking down her door and flashing the search warrant. "I just kept saying to them, 'you've got the wrong house.' "

I just want to know when "Oh my God" became one word. I've never seen this before, I'm surprised they didn't write "OMG."

I understand the danger aspect, but what I suggest is that they use proper old school methodology to determine risk. Watch them and then assess threat risks.

You don't think that a "tip" from a "professional water heater guy" that leads to a bullshit search, is not reason enough to get a lawyer. We have lowered the level of probable cause to joke status. Good citizenship is fighting an oppressive government.
Which falls right into guideline two: in order to force them to alter their policy.

Seriously?

I think having a door busted down in the middle of the night and strangers pulling guns on a person will have more lasting effects.

JACC, Hasn't it been fairly obvious that Kevin suffers from some sort of aspergers related syndrome that renders him unable to relate to emotions or care about people?

Ah, mental and emotional anguish. Being that this happened yesterday, let's at least give it some time before we go claiming lasting effects.

Oh my God= ref to One God makes other God's jealous.
Oh my God= ref makes other diety worshippers pissed theirs wasn't ref'd.
Oh my God= ref taking a name in vain (although not a name).
OMG= in some literary places this is only text msging, a lower/sub form of communications and is therefore not proper.
Hence:"Ohmigod".
If this is not already a word, look for it coming soon in an Oxford dictionary near you.

I just want to know when "Oh my God" became one word. I've never seen this before, I'm surprised they didn't write "OMG."

Anyone older than 30 has seen "Oh, my God" in print many, many times. It predates "OMG" by many, many decades.

But, beyond, that "OMG" is a text thang; not speech. For a reporter to use "OMG" in place of "Oh, my God" when spoken would be a journalistic faux paux and grammatically incorrect.

kc!  url02:08pm

noodleman, that's my point. they used "ohmigod" as a word in the story. They might as well have used OMG, it is just as stupid and made up. Oh my god or Oh, my god or Oh! My God would have been correct.

She just said she's looking for a lawyer, and we're labeling it a frivolous lawsuit already?

When she actually files suit alleging an egregious amount of damages, I might join in the criticism. But right now, knowing what we know, to look into legal representation is probably the smart thing to do.
