Dude Weather Subscribe to Secrets Minneapolis / St. Paul
OK...not just rollerblading Minneapolis...rollerblading Minneapolis to a catchy indie-pop tune on your scooter, with your sunglasses in the wet cold while wearing nothing but boxer briefs.
I'm not going to watch this at work, but I want to say that rollerbladers are one of the top reasons why I hate riding my bike on any bike trail in the city, especially around the lakes.
Totally safe for work. Unless you work with a bunch of not-secure-in-their-manhood-jocks who might pummel you for watching men in shorts.
no, I just don't watch youtube at work.
Oh for f*ck's sake, wayne. The city, state and county have spent more money than god on bike trails in Minneapolis lately. Yet why am I not surprised that they still aren't good enough.
I saw a roller-blader going down the street lights night by my house. I thought it was kinda dumb and dangerous, but he did stop at the stop sign, signal his turn, then turn once the cars had cleared. Gotta give him credit for following the laws at least.
oh shut up, kevin. Firstly, they're mostly recreational within the city. Not very many parts of town have bike trails which are useful for any kind of commuting or errands. Secondly, my point was that the goddamned rollerbladers make the paths practically useless anyway because they sway back and forth, taking up the entire trail, and often run in packs, sometimes blocking both sides of a two-way bike trail. I've been run off trails before by packs of rollerbladers going the wrong way and refusing to move.
but maybe if we had bike trails that were a tad more useful for anything other than recreational riding and banned rollerbladers from them (and could somehow convince joggers and people with strollers to stay off them too) I might be happy with them. It's still way better than the bike trail systems in most other cities here, but I'm always for continuous improvement.
and I'm willing to bet they spend more resurfacing highways every year than they've spent on the entire city bike trail system, kevs.
or maybe not, actually, because the roads are in shit shape around here. right, right, no money. thanks governor cheapskate.
This conversation would be exactly the same, but more tolerable, without the "for f*cks sakes" and "shut ups."
true enough.
(sigh)
Again, from the MnDOT Office of Finance:
Total Construction Expenditures by Budget Fiscal Year - Trunk Highway and Trunk Highway Bond Fund
2000 - $485,780,769
2001 - $470,266,351
2002 - $565,025,222
Enter "governor cheapskate"
2003 - $592,404,349
2004 - $692,654,530
2005 - $763,642,193
2006 - $796,404,367
2007 - $728,653,869 (FY 07 has ended, but not all transactions are completed, hence the small number)
Total - $5,094,831,652
That's five billion ninety-four million eight hundred thirty-one thousand six hundred fifty-two dollars, for those who have trouble with numbers.
When is God going to chip in ad help pay for better bike trails?
Great video. I am impressed withh their skills.
Kevin: What portion/percentage of that money is actual outlay from capital, and what is outlay from borrowed funds such as public bonds?
I think it's important to remember that those trails around the lakes are recreational trails, and biking isn't the only form of recreation. I agree that the fruitbooters can be a bit of an annoyance, since they take up the entire trail with their swooshing, but they they have every right to be there.
Usually, a hearty On Your Left does the trick.
I have no idea. Trunk highways are founded in the constitution and funded with MVST and gas tax revenues. We might even throw GF funds in there, too. Not sure. It also authorizes the Legislature to issue bonds and deposit proceeds in the Trunk Highway bond fund.
fruitbooters? Never heard that term before.
The vid was pretty entertaining. I did almost inappropriately laugh during the bunny-hop segment as I thought one of the guys was going down.
I love to rollerblade and I don't swoosh across the entire trail. I live in the city so I'm conscious of both people and the rules of the road.
And puhleaze. Don't turn this thread into a MnDot discussion or how much get's spent on what. Arrggghh.
Is this going to be a day of bikers bitch about drivers who bitch about peds who bitch about bladers who bitch about dog walkers who bitch about...
fruitbooters, I like that! Wouldn't want to get fruitbooted in the ass, though. No sir.
can't we just focus on the entertainment value of the video?
I love the vids ok, go-esque quality.
Totally safe for work
Unless your job blocks youtube.

It's also important to note bike paths are marked as such and so are Pedestrian paths.
My job blocks youtube also. Damn.
Thanks for posting this. Filming was most definitely cold and uncomfortable, but we barreled through it. If anyone would like rollerblading or underwear-wearing lessons, let me know.
Adam
Very entertaining! I can't even stand in one place holding on to a stationary object with my "fruitboots" on, as clumsy as I am. Color me green with envy.
I'll pass on lessons, but I admire your skating abilities. That looks like fun.
If someone drops their biases, he will notice that there are as many idiot bicyclists on the trails as skaters.
My guess is that he is either one of them that rides two or three across or thinks that the trail is their private race track with headphones on and expect people to move out of their way by intuition.
Duh, the lakes are crowded regardless of what method you use. Either get a clue about being near other people or go play in traffic.
