What's with the stealing and defacing in this thread of images from local photographers that are clearly licensed on Flickr as CC-Attrib-NoDeriv-NonCom? Local "blog" encouraging users to steal from local photographers/artists. That's bad mojo.

You're violating the license that is, you know, the same one mnspeak uses (yes, that shiny link at the bottom of this very page) to protect its content from such bad behavior. Is this Bartel Cartel approved? Could of at least provided a link to a query for images with the right licenses since you were basically asking your users to alter and post what they found. Double standards are lose.

Did you get Ernesto's permission or should we all just expect a little less from our Minnesotan "40 under 40" web marketing consultants. Sure makes manifestos issued about NewMedia a lot less believable when they come from someone who disrespects the rights and work of a photographer from of all places an online social network community by putting unfunny text in horrible fonts on them and uploading to their own flickr account before cache-linking them to a commercial forum and all with no original author attribution.

And for the record that recent Minnesota fashion-wax thing just looked bizarre.

CC-Attrib-NoDeriv means just that, attribution of source and no altering.

If it was an honest dumb mistake, I would apologize to the photographers, hope your clients don't notice and for god's sakes if a blog picks up on your mistake, claim you were drinking and go to rehab for a week. Rehab is so totally hot right now.

some1regdmynym makes a good point, friends: Let's make sure we're using photos that the originators wouldn't mind us using. Feel free to use my mummified cat.

I'm a marketing consultant, not a designer (clearly) or a lawyer. Had this been for commercial purposes or for a client, yes, one would consult with an attorney.

If what you say is accurate -- and I'm not saying you're not spot on -- then the thread needs to be pulled. Period.

I changed the link at the top of the page to Flickr images that are explicitly CC licenses that allow changes and commercial uses, because that gives the widest leeway for reusing an image, but I think some1regdmynym is making a bigger fuss than is warranted, and was particularly prickish to attack Andrew. If anyone has an image on here they wish removed, I will do so, but somehow I don't think it will come up.

Anyway, now that we're linked to images with the widest leeway, can we get back to posting Minneapolis LOLcats? They make me laugh.

Photobucket, Picasaweb, and other image hosts usually give you the code you need but here's the general format:

Photobucket lists it in a field called "HTML Tag" under each image

We had a Google RSS Reader thingy on the side of the page that was far more comprehensive. It must have gotten eaten in the crash last week, along with a lovely potato salad I was storing in MnSpeak for my lunch.

I am sure Matt will restore it soon.
