YouTube Video Sparks Police Investigation

Yesterday, City Pages posted a link to a YouTube video of a group of Somali boys “knocking bikers over, tackling unsuspecting runners from behind, shoving kids and generally threatening folks for what appeared to be the pure fun of it.” Well, apparently, viewers at Mpls Bike Love and other local sites identified the neighborhood, near Central High School on Lexington Avenue in St. Paul, as well as some of the assailants, sparking a police investigation. YouTube has pulled the video, due to violent content, but you can see an archived version here.

Hopefully, this will start a (very stupid) trend of posting crime videos on YouTube, and we can start a new era of online citizen policing. Why not?

TC Media Now

David Brauer points out a site called TCMedia Now (and points out that it’s got Mark Rosen in bell bottoms.) Also: Dave Moore’s final broadcast. So what is the site? City Pages points out that the long-awaited Marriage between Jim and Pam on last night’s The Office was a spoof on the popular video of a Minnesota couple’s dance-mad wedding.

Two people who founded MNSpeak/Secrets of the City/Talk were the subject of articles recently. This one, from the New York Observer, asks Rex Sorgatz the tantalizing question: “As a straight man, how can you justify hosting a Gossip Girl viewing party?” This MinnPost post provides an update on Chuck Olsen of “UpChuck” fame, on his newly revamped MN Stories project.  [Update: Gawker really doesn't think very highly of Rex.  In the last two days, they've had two posts about him, one titled the Last Hurrah of Microcelebrity.]
