The University of Minnesota’s new football stadium is officially dry — as are all other sports venues on campus. The university’s Board of Regents today approved a proposal to ban all alcohol sales at the university’s new football stadium, a prohibition that will be extended to all other sports arenas on campus. U Prof Shares Nobel in Economics
Professor emeritus Leonid Hurwicz shares the prize with two other Americans, Eric Maskin of Princeton and Roger Myerson of the University of Chicago.
“An emeritus professor of economics at the University of Minnesota shares the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with two other economists for developing a theory that helps explain situations in which markets work and others in which they don’t.”
Their theory, mechanism design theory also has applications in voting procedures and political science.

Sobering News for the U of M
The Pioneer Press has an article today: “University of Minnesota/U lags in race for U.S. research money.” Eventually, the University community, the legislature, and the citizens of Minnesota are going to have to have an honest dialog about the future of the university. The sooner, the better.
