The Strib didn’t pull any punches this morning, suggesting that the Tim Brewster era as Gopher football coach should soon be over. Should there be quicker results, especially with the new stadium that the “actual” students have to contribute to? Is there really any chance the Gophers will ever be good? The last 50 years of so suggest not.

Will Goldy’s Solar Shack Beat The Pack?
The University of Minnesota has entered the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon competition for the first time with this nifty little solar home. Jason’s Station has been on this for awhile. If the idea of solar power in the North Star State sounds odd, consider that we have are roughly on the same latitude as Germany, the world’s leader in solar power.

The Star Tribune profiles the mascot of U of M Sports: Ah, the life of a rock star. Goldy is the official mascot of the University of Minnesota, and he’s been a part of campus life since 1940. He can lead a cheer, ignite a crowd, raise spirits and perform skits. He can be seen at every sporting event imaginable as well as gigs like birthday parties and weddings.

The Science Behind Watchmen
One of the most watched videos on YouTube this weekend was The Science of Watchmen, featuring U of M professor Jim Kakalio, whose shtick is discussing the science of superheroes, and, as a result, was actually tapped by the Watchmen filmmakers to consult on the film.
