Gangs of St. Paul
From the outside, Rico’s crib looks like any other in his St. Paul neighborhood: aluminum siding, wooden porch, chain-link fence, windows shuttered tight. But inside are gathered half a dozen young men–sturdy, hungry–repping the colors of several rival street gangs. It ought to be a tense scene, but Rico’s house is a demilitarized zone, a delicate combination of womb and time bomb–and perhaps the only place these boys feel completely safe. No one is acting reckless tonight. Theyre here to shoot pool, scoop soffrito rice and beans from steaming pots, drink Coronas and E&J brandy from the bottle, and smoke blunts in grape cigarillos on his couch.

Gopher Bar
MinnPost asks how things are going at St. Paul’s semi-notorious Gopher Bar, home of the coney. TC sidewalks remembers some of the signs posted in the Gopher’s window, which makes it seem, er, kind of frothy at the mouth.

Downtown St. Paul’s night life: Is it go
Not sure if this has been posted on this website, but it’s quite an interesting article in the Pioneer Press. I live in downtown Saint Paul and love it. It’s less expensive and a nice downtown to live in: essentially it is very pedestrian-friendly, and has a lot of character and charm which are simply lacking in Minneapolis.
I think it would be great to see things hop a bit more in St Paul, though certainly not the way they do along Hennepin in Minneapolis.
Latest comment — wayno: is that a strip club joke?
Want to get public documents?
Well, let’s say you want them from St. Paul. And let’s say they concern that shooting of an undercover officer in Coon Rapids a little while ago. Well, buddy, public or not, you’re going to get refused. And, when you dig a little deeper, you’re going to discover that the St. Paul Police has collected your personal cell phone records. More.

Sights set for corner of Wabasha & 6th
Looks like there are some new plans for an ambitious new skyscraper downtown St Paul, and already all hell is breaking loose in the Pioneer Press discussion boards. St Paul could really use this project to pick up downtown. St Paul has less surface parking lots in the heart of their downtown compared to Minneapolis, but this one in St Paul is quite egregious. What should be done with the former Wabasha Court space?
