This afternoon a grease fire broke out at Heidi’s restaurant on 50th and Bryant and set the whole building ablaze, taking down Heidi’s, the Blackbird Cafe, Patina, Shoppe Local, and Stacey Johnson Jewelry Design. Alas, “no civilian injuries were reported, but two firefighters were hurt, one of them cut in the face by flying glass.”
Oddly enough, this comes just after Heidi’s own Stewart Woodman was nominated as a James Beard Award semifinalist for best Midwest chef. While the restaurant was a total loss, we hope he can rebuild quickly and keep punching out top-quality eats.

Latest comment — kc!: YES! That's a perfect spot. It is a pretty building and lots of traffic.
