MinnPost calls CP’s web page out for linking to a story and then printing 15 of the story’s 16 paragraphs: The implicit tradeoff we story-cullers make is that we repurpose your copy and but leave the reader interested enough to send you some life-sustaining hits. Overly long excerpts violate that spirit, if not copyright law.

Who gets credit?
So on October 11, The Deets does a blog post about Erik Paulsen’s Wikipedia page, which had been marked as “reading like a commercial.” Yesterday, City Pages ran exactly the same story, with the screenshot from The Deets but with no other credit given to him; his story was not linked to. Did they owe Ed more credit, as he apparently discovered the story?
Latest comment — alexis: That Twitter account is now protected, although it appears a few commenters here can still see it. Although I wouldn't hold Emily too accountable ...

City Pages’ annual list of best new bands. I was completely overlooked, despite having penned this exquisite country gospel song.
Latest comment — chuckt: The idea was always that it's more fun to include more bands than less fewer. Hi Pete!
I like the nightlife, baby
Latest comment — cmj: I'm kind of surprised she'd write this. She is/was part of the bicycle culture in the cities, also married, with a kid, if I'm not mistaken. Yes, ...
Has the Jury Reached A Verdict?
After spending all day in jury duty I was looking forward to some good old fashioned Teh Internets and it’s beautiful series of tubes.
It wasn’t long before I was reminded how fast things can change on the web.
It appears as though CityPages has launched a new design. I thought it seemed a bit busy at first, but it’s starting to grow on me. What do you think?
Latest comment — aeklund: I miss the site we made. Boo hoo hoo...:( (Naw...progress is good. Good luck!)
Lileks writing for City Pages
Well, not exactly: Right now, sitting at my Mac with a hot-water bottle and two blankets, I still look forwardnot to spring, but to global warming. Let the icecaps melt and the sea roll up to take the coastal cities; they’ve been flooding us with their sexed-up media pap for decades. I wouldn’t mind a little less Miley Cyrus and a little more sunshine. Then I could reach right up, and touch the sky.
Latest comment — acalhoun: ... but you're one hell of a local historian.
Indian mascots and death threats
City Pages’ Web editor (and occasional MnSpeaker) Jeff Shaw wrote a piece about how his former paper would not be calling the Port Townshend Redskins by their name, because it is a racial epithet. Later, he received a manila envelope: It contained wildly scrawled threats, and artistic renderings of me being dismembered. The sender had found a picture of me, and cut the head out, and done a drawing where my blood and innards were draining from my neck.
Latest comment — jeffshaw: Hey, I actually agree with some of what Bx wrote. Do native people face greater problems than this? Absolutely. Do I understand that many Indians ...
City Page, not so bad?
David Brauer, and outgoing City Pages writer Paul Demko, have a few good things to say about the local newsweekly, while Demko chastizes MnSpeakers for their criticism of the paper. Hey, Paul, we invited Kevin Hoffman to one of the first MnSpeak get-togethers evar!

Best of the Twin Cities
City Pages lists its picks of the best. Among them: Dude weather; Mediation. I’d link to the latter, but City Pages seems o be experiencing some sort of Web problem at the moment.

And then there were none
Paul Demko, one of the final holdouts of the old City Pages, is holding out no more. He’s switched over to Minnesota Monitor. A sampling of his CP work.
Latest comment — upon a star: On top of the "average joe" not knowing where these sweet internet sites are, there's a definite demographic shift when things move online.
Latest comment — justpbob: And lo! Don't forget the "lo," David & Ed.
