Well, you know what? That’s not that bad. Really. Last night the design for the “Downtown East Commons”—the two blocks next to the new Viking’s Stadium previously called “The Yard” that the MPLS Parks Dept doesn’t want to manage and is likely going to be filled up with private events booked by the Vikes—was unveiled. It’s at least realistic, compared to the wacky Nicollet Mall redesign. If anything, it makes Downtown East MPLS look a lot like a beefed up Downtown STPL. And we like the idea of Downtown MPLS being more like St. Easy, but with people in it. The biggest questions we have are about the use of Portland Avenue and who’s going to pick up the trash from partiers on game days?
