When Eden Prairie native—and Chicago Blackhawks defenseman—Nick Leddy helped his team win a Stanley Cup, we speculated that he might bring the trophy by our neck of the woods. Turns out we were right. Friday night, Leddy will be hauling it to his hometown, where he’s expected to get a hero’s welcome: an introduction by Mayor Nancy Tyra-Lukens and then time with a gang of fans eager to talk hockey and snag an autograph.
The Stanley Cup is the oldest trophy in North American team sports, and each member of the winning team gets one day with the trophy. This isn’t the first time a Minnesotan champ has brought the award back home—in 2010 Dustin Byfuglien brought it back to his hometown of Roseau.
