Developers’ plans to transform a 19th century brewery into artist lofts came to fruition at a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday. The $100 million dollar project is slated to provide 247 units of housing at Schmidt Brewery in St. Paul, and it’s expected to be completed by next year. The renovation will include lofts and studio space for artists of all stripes, in addition to a few new townhomes. The brewery has been vacant since 2004, and city officials were ecstatic to finally find a new use for the place back in November.
