Forget giving a moose a muffin, how about just a safe place to live? The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources stated Monday that the moose would be one of 67 animals added to the state’s official endangered species list, expected to be finalized next year. The recent steady decline of the moose population raised a red flag, leading to a “species of concern status” proposal. Although proposing to add the moose to the endangered species list won’t currently protect the animals legally, or affect hunting season, it does mean the DNR is paying more attention to threats to the population.
