Despite their silence over the past five months, the Minnesota Orchestra has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Orchestral Performance, MPR reported today. While most concerts have been cancelled since October due to labor disputes, the orchestra has long been held in high esteem. It should come as no small surprise then, that under the direction of conductor Osmo Vanska, the Minnesota Orchestra is being recognized for its performance of the Sibelius 2nd and 5th Symphonies.
Mayor Rybak attended last week’s nomination celebration concert and said, “We have an orchestra that has surged forward and done remarkable things under a remarkable conductor. Now we actually are nominated for a Grammy that, guess what, we should win, and that’s how we do it!”
