Minneapolis-based Wood Shop Gives New Life to Unwanted Trees

In a unique twist on the Portlandia-esque trend of buying local, a Minneapolis wood shop is giving consumers the chance to buy flooring, countertops, and cutting boards made from unwanted trees throughout the city, according to MPR. “Wood From The Hood”—as the endeavor is called—salvages trees that were slated to be cut down due to disease or a variety of other reasons. Owners Rick and Cindy Siewert said customers like the idea of buying locally-made goods whenever possible, even when it comes to home furnishings.
