When it comes to sports in Minnesota, there’s no greater glory than winning the Boys’ State High School Hockey Tournament. The action starts today at Xcel Energy Center, with the championship games on Saturday. Who made it to state? Class A includes Rochester Lourdes, Little Falls, Duluth Marshall, New Ulm, Thief River Falls, Breck, Hermantown, and last year’s champs St. Thomas Academy. The big schools in Class AA include Lakeville South, Hill-Murray, Moorhead, Edina, Eagan, Maple Grove, Duluth East, and media darling Benilde-St. Margaret’s. That’s right, Jack Jablonski’s team made it to state! Getting tickets is nearly impossible at this point, but you can follow the action by downloading the Star Tribune’s app.

With all the excitement, it’s easy to forget about the recent media coverage on the dangers of youth sports. Case in point: Ohio State University just released a study with some disturbing stats about concussions. Apparently even mild concussions in kids can lead to yearlong memory loss. Play safe this weekend, boys. Play safe.
