North Minneapolis Finally Gets a Beach

Good news, North Minneapolis residents. One day soon you won’t have to travel to other parts of the city to witness the fleshy parade that marks summer in Minnesota—you’ll have a beach of your own.

The Strib reports that state and local officials broke ground yesterday on a $6 million upgrade to Webber Park, a makeover that will feature an actual sand beach lining “the only naturally-filtered swimming pool in the U.S.” Other features of the renovated park: a new bathhouse that will double as a warming house in winter, a granite slope entry (whatever that is), a lap pool, a wading pool, and a 13-f00t diving hole beneath a 10-foot diving cliff.

The grand opening is set for August 2014.
