Dayton’s Pup Passes On
In a touching post on his personal Facebook page today, Governor Dayton wished a final farewell to his pup Mesabi. The almost 11-year-old German shepherd died shortly after surgery to remove a tumor.
“Mesabi was a terrific dog,” Dayton wrote. “Everyone who knew him, adored him.”
The post prompted a vast outpouring of sympathy from Facebook users, garnering more than 1,000 likes and comments. Mesabi was one of the governor’s four German shepherds named after various bits of Minnesotan geography. Itasca and Wanamingo, two younger pups, are the only ones remaining.
