Dayton’s Pup Passes On

In a touching post on his personal Facebook page today, Governor Dayton wished a final farewell to his pup Mesabi. The almost 11-year-old German shepherd died shortly after surgery to remove a tumor.

“Mesabi was a terrific dog,” Dayton wrote. “Everyone who knew him, adored him.”

The post prompted a vast outpouring of sympathy from Facebook users, garnering more than 1,000 ┬álikes and comments. Mesabi was one of the governor’s four German shepherds named after various bits of Minnesotan geography. Itasca and Wanamingo, two younger pups, are the only ones remaining.
