Behind the Scenes: Lakes & Legends Brewing
There’s a lot of stuff always brewing around town, and we sometimes sneak into a spot that’s still in development to give you a little preview of what’s coming up that will contribute to the character of our cities.
We’ve got another Twincy Trend Watch! Hot Buildings are the new Hot Intersections! We’ve previously hyped up 550 Vandalia in Paul Paul, thanks to many of its cool tenants—IFP MN, Lake Monster Brewing, Savage Umbrella Theater, Union Park Marketing, and a few others—and we’ve got our eye on the spot where Tin Whiskers Brewing expanded (where Black Sheep Pizza and Keys and others have been). Now we’ve got the first floor of LMP Apartments at Lasalle at 14th a block off Loring Park will be the next Hot Building as soon at Lakes & Legends opens later this month.
Lakes & Legends Co-owner Derrick Taylor gave us a tour of their pretty much finished tap room—and it’s quite a tap room, with extensive space, new fixtures, reclaimed wood furnishings, and a subway tile backdrop behind the bar. The brewery will be focusing on Belgians and a Saison, which we find refreshing in our race-to-the-hoppiest beer market. Keep an eye on the social for Lakes & Legends, they’re going to be soft opening (when they feel they’re ready) before any major grand opening and that way you’ll get in ahead of the crowds.
So what about the rest building, then? Taylor was so excited about the other tenants that he also made go over to Eggy’s Diner, a Chicago-based diner we’ve heard nothing but good things about and is going to be a huge deal once more people find out about it, and the 24/7 YogaFit studio. (YogaFit was very nice about us embarrassingly not taking our shoes off and Taylor said they’re also hoping to tap Eggy’s for some tap room food.) There’s still some spots open in the space—we’d love to see a themed cocktail room or arcade—but we’re pretty happy with the direction so far and expect the building to be a real destination in 2016.
