The MNHS’s twitter feed points out that today is the anniversary of the day Minnesota became the Gopher State, and points to a MinnPost story explaining why: “A widely circulated cartoon at the time shows a ‘railroad car of corrupt men being pulled by nine striped rodents with human heads, representing the people of the territory.” The site also reproduces the cartoon, and it’s a weird one.

Gopher State road funding from The Economic Stimulus package passed last week. Think:
Ortonville, Monticello and I-90 at a cost of $160 million.
Just heard it on the radio.
