Local chefs say they’d be up for a “Throwdown” challenge. [Pioneer Press]
Minnesotans have participated in a number of reality TV situations — from Survivor, to American Idol, to Extreme Home Makeover. How about inviting the Food Network’s Bobby Flay into town for a “throwdown” challenge with local chefs? Could Bobby make a tuna fish hotdish that would awe a Lutheran church dinner? Would Bobby dare season lutefisk with his Southwestern spices?
What other Minnesotan-Wisconsin food traditions could give Chef Flay a run for his money?

How about not. The guy’s an arrogant ass. And the Food network is as relevant to food as MTV is to music these days.

One of the best things I’ve ever seen on the Food Network was the guy from Izzy’s not knowing who Bobby Flay was.
awesome.
6:24 pm
jucy lucys clearly.
or walleye?
6:31 pm
Keep that guy out of town.
6:34 pm
That guy from Diner’s, Drive Ins and Dives passed through a couple times. He went to Psycho Suzie’s, Some other place for grunt food. Can’t remember what it was.
6:39 pm
He may be arrogant, but he takes defeat with grace on the show…which is practically every episode.
6:52 pm
What else could he do? Say “I’m Bobby Flay, you rubes.
“Stand aside, scum of the earth, here now comes The Food Network!”
8:01 pm
Bobby should be challenged to a venison dinner throwdown, including dressing the kill in the woods.
Or watch his reaction when he meets a wiley eelpout.

Rat, Diners guy has done the Wienery, the Town Talk diner, Psycho Suzies, the Nook, Al’s breakfast, and possibly a few more.
The guy is sort of a douche, but the show is a lot of fun. In fact, that guy (Guy) has the coolest job in the world. Do you know how much I would love to travel around the country eating cheeseburgers and corned beef sandwiches?
FUCK.
bobby flay is sort of a jerk, but I think it’s in the script. And he gets beat in his throwdowns often enough….
9:13 am
oh and Victor’s and Bryant Lake….
9:19 am
Guy doesn’t look like he misses too many chances to eat cheeseburgers and corned beef sandwiches.
Maybe he’s just stocky.

Fieri was at Emily’s Lebanese Deli, too. I think that episode premieres later this month.
9:35 am
Seems to me Emily’s doesn’t really fit the profile for the show. I never thought of it as a diner in the traditional sense.
9:35 am
Flay used to sit two rows behind us section @ Viking home games.
9:45 am
I had a chance to watch Flay in action a couple of weeks ago at a hotel bar in Florida. I thought he’d be a jerk but was very accomodating of the tourista asking for autographs and pictures. Surprising based on what you hear about him.

D,D-I&D also went to Donatelli’s in Mahtomedi, one of my all-time favorite spots.
2:27 pm
Bobby Flay did a throwdown with the owner of Izzy’s Ice Cream. Izzy’s won.
4:31 pm
I agree with baker, Fieri’s job is ideal. I have the build for it, too, although it would probably send my gout spiraling out of any reasonable control.
5:01 pm
the emily’s lebanese deli episode already aired. they ate tongue (lamb i think). he also went to the modern cafe.
5:16 pm
I’m sorry, but lamb tongue is not comfort diner food. That shit belongs on No Reservations.
5:23 pm
in all fairness it wasn’t the featured item. either way, guy didn’t seem overly impressed. just like me when i went there.
5:25 pm
Different strokes, baker. Fieri does a couple of different shows now; not just Drive-Ins, Diners and Dives.
I watch DDD less for Fieri (even tho I do enjoy his attitude, compared to some of the other Food Network wonks) than I do to see how globulicious and freaky some of our restaurant food gets.

Hmmm… maybe Bobby can help Bar A with their Southwestern Juicy Lucy. I do think he should throwdown the Lucy somewhere.
