Blogging Still Going Strong in North Minneapolis

Jon Tevlin at the STrib takes a look at the defamation lawsuit against John Hoff, aka blogger Johnny Northside. The trial is just one episode in a larger series of blog-based sagas (for lack of a better word) in and around North Minneapolis.

I won’t pretend to know all the details of all the accusations from all parties involved because it gets really complicated. So instead of a summary, if you want to start getting up to speed, check out the Adventures of Johnny Northside, the oppositional MisAdventures of Johnny Northside, Irving Inquisition, Hawthorne Voices, the (anti-)Jordan Hawkman group, the Mpls Mirror, and recently the Deets. You’ll quickly find out which blogs make a little more sense than others. Who said blogging was dead?

I wish the City Pages or someone would write a long story explaining what the hell is going on. I’ve tried to figure it out, but it is too complicated and all the players involved are very biased. And based on their online personas, I don’t like most of them.

Also Connie (Ranty) has been brought into this mess.

I wonder, to Johnny Northsaide, if maintaining a little bandwidth on the Internet is worth having to endure this. I wouldn’t stick my neck out and leave myself open to something like this…

I did once pretend to serve Johnny Northside a subpoena in a bar. The look on his face was priceless. And by “priceless” I mean “I instantly felt guilty for causing what looked like a stroke.”

As evidence to the truth of Max’s recent claim The Deets is still so proud of his obnoxious, impish stunt with the Yellowbooks, after going on two years, he had to post it again

Hoff’s best defense here is the involvement of the plaintiff’s attorney, Jill Clark. I mean, wow, she’s got a lot to prove by saying Hoff’s a mouthpiece of Don Samuels and therefore Hoff isn’t entitled to First Amendment protections. Plus, has she ever studied First Amendment law? Appalling interpretation of it, which could have HUGE ripple effects for all media if she’s successful.

If this stuff is so important, why can’t all the people involved buy their own damn domain? Blogspot, please. The only I can access regularly is Iriving Inquisition.
