The locally-made jerky at Dixies on Grand is tasty, if you can get past the way it looks.

You can’t have a legitimate beef jerky tasting without yours truly as a judge.  Mitch Omer, are you listening?

Mmmmmmmm. Guess what I’m eating right now?

I’ll leave the meat jerking puns and jerky name-calling to you. Go at it.
Sheesh. When you put it like that, it kinda takes the childish fun out of it. Some of the best jerky I’ve had was found at a gas station outside of Polson, MT – turkey jerky that was made by one of the local dudes there. He doesn’t sell it to people he doesn’t know and won’t let any of the stores he sells to contact him. He just stops in when he’s in town to see if they need refills.

On a slight deviation anyone that wants a good read ought to check out this article about the Link Family Drama, owners of Jack Link’s brand Jerky.

Basically the son got bought/forced out so he took his inheritance bought a decent sized competitor and moved them from across the country to tiny Minong?? Right across the street essentially. I read that article at my cabin in Sconny and I immediately thought what a great movie plot it would make.  Hopefully someone options it.

@ryanl: Can’t say who’s right or wrong in the dispute but I do know it was Jack Link’s I bought this morning on the way in to work.

Yep I’m all ears and Yep you too, can judge because the first 100 people get to vote for the People’s Choice Awards….so get yourself down there and don’t f*#k it up…..should be fun and tasty with some surprises in-between.”Warmest Personal Regards”Mitch Omer

But aren’t you planning on doing something else that night, gq_rote?

I’m curious to know what the judging standards are for good beef jerky, Mitch. E.g., Von Hansen’s shops and Thielen Meats in Pierz make their own jerky that is brined and more lightly seasoned that the commercial jerky. Chinese pork jerky is sweet, not salty.

My guess is that Jerky is taste is quite subjective and influenced mostly by the memories that the flavors que.   For me both jerky and twizzlers bring back memories of summer family road trips to the cabin and I am quite sure that I would vote for whichever most closely aped the flavors of the little meat shop we’d stop by in Lidstrom.

So how do you become a judge? Can people come and taste the jerky?

I love the taste of jerky in the morning. It tastes like victory…
