Time for Brewster to go?

He should but the business side of me tells me he’ll get another year. The stadium will keep the fans in the seats and the revenue flowing. They’ve never really seen TV revenue so that’s a non issue. I believe that his hiring and the lack of search for a hired gun, was actually a result of the pending stadium.

One things for sure a bright smile won’t keep you in the seat forever.

At this point in a coach’s tenure, I wouldn’t expect them to necessarily contend for a Big 10 title. However, I would expect that a coach would have put his stamp on the program by now. No such thing is going on with Brewster, unless you count an utter lack of offense as a stamp.

Glen Mason somehow managed to keep the team around .500 in the Big 10 and bowl eligible every single year without having the stadium recruiting advantage, and he got shown the door. True, there was the utter meltdown against Texas Tech…but if you look at his overall resume, he looks like Amos Alonzo Stagg compared to Brewster. And you knew Mason’s teams would stay in games with their zone blocking scheme and ace running backs (remember Marion Barber III, Thomas Tapeh and Laurence Maroney…NFL quality recruits). Last I heard Mase is a Big 10 analyst looking to get back in football. Sounds like a good fit for the Gophers.

BTW…Spartans are going to ROLL over the Gophers Saturday night.

No doubt Mason was a better coach but the “ah shucks” guy gets bowled over every time by the slick salesman with the sharp tongue and big smile.

Thats the double edged sword of sales though, you can be all smiles and pronouns till you stop delivering on your promises. Then you go from “everybody’s best friend” to “that slimy salesman” in an instant.

The gophers traded mediocrity for hope when they sent Mason packing and hired Brewster. Is Brewster a lot of bluster? Sure.

He’s the kind of coach that needs to surround himself with really good coordinators, and I’d say the biggest fault in the program is not having the OC/DC positions solidified. They’ve been anything but solid, and of course Brewster isn’t without blame there.

This town/state loves a bandwagon to jump on and the gophs haven’t provided that in Brewster’s tenure. Very few rational people expected this season’s record to be much different than where they’re at, but the game on Saturday night could have huge implications for Brew’s future.

I still don’t see him out after this year barring a major meltdown. But hovering around .500 and losing to rivals won’t cut it long term.

But come on, Sparty’s gonna “ROLL” them? In extra scary CAPSLOCK?

Time to bring back the old Big 10 tradition of ritually executing coaches who have three consecutive loosing seasons in front of a chanting crowd. Just kidding…today the media slays the coaches.

@justpbob: You’d think with all the medical and computer research that goes on at the U they would’ve figured out how to clone Murray Warmath by now!

Kinda like the rolling your spartans did at home vs the CHIPPEWAS?

I kid. The gophs would probably have trouble with a MAC team or two or three. But if memory serves, the only team State has rolled this year is Montana State in E Lansing.

Time for the gopher fans, especially the students, to show up and help the gophers beat a team that is probably better talent-wise and on paper. That along with a decent showing in Iowa City will help brewster save some face.

Then – and only then – I too will admit thats (sic) good.

Oh come on, don’t be so harsh guys.

The Gophers, their stadium and coach are Uber-important to MN.

That’s why I paid tuition and taxes to have shiny stadium built for them.

Glen Mason had a sweet seven figure severance package.

And that’s why this new coach dude probably gets paid one of the highest salaries at the U!!

Shows where our priorities are…. no need to spend the money on grad students and research which actually trains students to do something useful with their lives.

Probably shouldn’t even go into the former players who have been convicted of cheating in classes, rape, etc…

not that I need to ask, but why does Vlad hate America?

If gophers fans really want to show Iowa, they’ll head down there and have all kinds of extramarital sex in the public restrooms. that’ll show ‘em.

ROLLS?
