The Blaine Spling Lake Park Life newspaper offers a nice little story of three World War II combat vets who recently took a flight in a B-17G “Flying Fortress” at the Blaine airport. All three men had to bail out of aircraft shot by the Germans, they all ended up at the same POW camp. My Uncle Joe had a similar experience in 1944.
Many of our WW II vets are fading away, but not all are leaving without a fight, like this scrappy fellow, who pushed for service dogs for wounded vets, a cause taken up by our own Senator Franken.
