I missed “The Wrestler” when it was first released (I was living elsewhere) but I’m sure it was heavily promoted on All-Star Wrestling.

Speaking of which … old AWA shows are shown late-nigh It on one of the ESPN channels. Every so often I come across one while scanning the schedule. At trivia last night, kc! was recalling the time she met Baron von Raschke. Did you know he was a school teacher by profession, in a south metro district? “Dat’s all dey need to know! Arrrgghh!”

My freshman year in college, a kid on my floor was from Iran. His dad was good friends with The Iron Sheik.

That bar fight scene looks like it was filmed at Mayslack’s (which makes sense, as it was once owned by a westler).

Am I correct?

The Baron also used to guide the tram tours at the MN Zoo.

That is totally Mayslack’s before they renovated like 10 years ago and opened up the music room. The crack on the floor is a dead give away. OF course the little lights at each table that look to be working in the clip now just look like electrical hazards.

One of the best plays I have seen was about the Baron, put on by the History Theater. It went through his life, the history of wrestling, talked about Vern Gagne, and a bunch of other wrestling type stuff. The Baron was actually in the play, making it doubly good.

Sounds like The Baron was a fixture south of the river. I have friends from Burnsville who had him as a substitute teacher. They say that he had a good sense of humor about his former career.

I think he lives in Omaha now. I’m friends with him on Facebook.

Siman, comments like that are going to be deleted the moment I see them, and you’re engaging in abusive and unethical promotion. If you’d like to buy ads on Secrets of the City, we do sell them, but, otherwise, stop it.
