City Pages has hired a new staffer, Andy Mannix, and a new news aggregator which they have named (in homage, not snark) after their formal rival paper. Anytime a media outlet actually hires someone these days, it makes headlines.
Watch what you say, fellow MNspeakers, because this site is going to be one of Mannix’s sources, according to CP editor Kevin Hoffman.
Welcome to the party, Andy. Good luck.

Maybe CityPages ought to watch what it does because MNSpeak is going to be one of the sources.

Here’s a link to the Mannix scoop that had people buzzing awhile back. This story earned praise from MinnPost’s David Brauer and a followup from the infamous JonnyNorthside.

I’m sure it’s both an homage and a good way to hold onto the trademark (service mark? copyright? I get them all mixed up) for the name Twin Cities Reader. Even after they bought it, they have had to use it at least once a year or risk losing it. That’s one of the reasons why the fall book issue was called The Reader for many years.
