Squirrels trash expensive Scotch at the 400 Bar

Ouch. Given the size of their pours, they are probably out at least $50K…

Oh, and I like the Spiced Orange, which I think came from Imbibe magazine.

1.5 oz gin (genever is also really good in this)
1 oz spiced simple syrup*
1 oz fresh-squeezed blood orange juice (I think regular orange juice works just as well)
shake/mix, serve up
garnish with orange wheel or twist

*I like a 1:1 simple syrup, preferably with demerara. I spice it with whatever we have on hand that I can see. I like to load it up. Orange peel, lemon peel, allspice, cloves, black pepper, cinnamon stick, vanilla bean, etc. etc.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Squirrels are pure evil.

I think the nicest Christmas cocktail is a glass of Johnny Walker – Gold Label when the bottle’s been kept in the freezer, served with some dark chocolate Lindoor truffles.

Incidentally, for actually being Christmas famous, you might try “smoking bishop,” which is mulled port wine with the juice of roasted seville oranges and cloves. I’ve never tried it, but one day I will.

@kurtis: A “smoking bishop” sounds heavenly. I wonder if substituting Grand Marnier for the Seville oranges would work, too?

It probably doesn’t hurt, noodleman, but I’m struck by the commitment of the traditional recipe — takes over a day to make.

Scotch. In. The. Freezer.

Wha?

Their website calls it “our unique frozen serve… Experience the changing flavors as it warms in the mouth.” I guess if that doesn’t sound appealing you don’t have to do it. At $70/bottle you might pass on the gold all together (I’ve only bought 1 bottle myself, though I sometimes get a shot when I’m out in and they have it.)

I made a nice screwdriver for breakfast with fresh squeezed OJ and a little shot of POM. It was delicious!

Just enjoyed a shot of Knob Creek (thank you, Mrs. Lungs), she is having some B. Irish Cream on the rocks (you’re welcome, Mrs. Lungs).

Got “North by Northwest” and “Goldfinger” DVDs, “The Nine” book (read first chapter — great!), some nice clothes from my mom (the woman has a great eye).

Speaking of squirrels, Mr. B has defended the honor of good scotch by ripping the hell out his “country squirrel” dog toy this AM. He also got a toy moose from his Hoosier grandmother (I call the moose “Sarah”), the tail has already been chewed off.

Dinner: Pork loin in cranberry sauce, the trad. green bean caserole, mashed potatoes, some flan for desert.
