On Mid-Day today, in a broader conversation about civility in politics Jim Ramstad said he’s leaving the door to running for Governor cracked open unless another moderate steps up. He’s even considered the Independence ticket!
Would any mnSpeak Republicans vote for him in the primaries on the Rep or Indy ticket? This Wellstone/Ventura voter was at least temporarily swayed by the idea…

Isn’t the Rammer to busy…ya know… “rammin” at Hazellewood Grille in Excelsior?

One word; landslide.

It sounds messed up, but I would vote for him as an Independence candidate but not as a Republican.
I feel that voting for a Republican implies a tacit approval of the party’s activities, which I have found lately to be completely abhorrent.
So please, Mr. Ramstad, join up with the Independence party.

C. needs to rethink what voting for a third party candidate for governor really means. In several recent elections, it means the Republicans won. In another, the independent won.
Lightning is unlikely to strike twice. For all his good qualities, the Rammer isn’t going to inspire many first-time or nontraditional voters to rally around his banner, as Ventura did.
So a vote for a third party candidate just is a vote stolen from one of the two candidates/party that will win in 2010.

justpbob,
Thanks for being part of the reason why America is so fucked up right now.
Things will never change if we stick with the broken 2-party system.
It’s gotta start somewhere. Unfortunately, people like you are in the way.

No, Bob’s not in the way. He’s just telling you there’s consequences to your actions. That’s the way adults evaluate things.
I don’t know if Ramstad can break through. If he can build the support and raise the money he can run under a third party. But he’s not a Jesse Ventura.
If he can’t raise the money an build the support he probably doesn’t deserve it.

C. people like you who would vote for Ramstad aren’t rreally helping either. Third party or not. Just because there is a third way doesn’t mean that it’s a good way.

Who cares what party he’s in? What if he’s in your favorite party but he does a shitty job?
(I don’t even know who/what you are talking about, but the above is a version of my opinion for politics, religion, wine, food…)

“What if he’s in your favorite party but he does a shitty job?”
I think a large measure of the group would end up supporting/voting for a shitty candidate or representative.
It’s not fun, but sometimes it’s necessary.
It’s politics and government. It’s not buying shoes.

Jane, you obviously need to speak to the person hosting said party about hiring a new bartender. He’s probably watering down the drinks.
Like a Republican would!
I don’t know what that meant but I felt the need to address Jane’s party concerns, link my comment back to politics and insult the GOP. But at the same time, I didn’t feel like putting much thought into what I said.
Like a Republican!
Also.

Also, I saw the Rammer lost it on a high school junior who called him on his bullshit and then realizing he just lost his shit in front of 400 high schoolers and their teachers, tried to pull an about face and invited the kid to coffee. And then we all laughed at him and clapped for the kid who made a politician lose it in front of kids instead of brainwashing us like some future president might do to some kids a decade later.
Also, the kid turned out to be right about what he called him out on. I don’t remember what it was though, I just remember looking into it on Lexis-Nexis. The guy was some sort of policy wonk. I too turned out to be right in thinking, before that assembly started, “I get the feeling this guy’s kinda an a-hole. I have no reason to think this but the a-hole force is strong…”
Granted, that’s generally my assumption of the Reps from MN 3 & 6 but I wasn’t up on congressional districts back then.
I would, however, like to know what happened to that kid.

I concur on the A-hole bix…always seemed to me like some Mtka d-bag that got by on schmoozing rich women once they had too much chardonay.
If i was to label his position I think I would go with “Chardonnay Republican”

I resemble that remark.

I’m totally with C. on this one. Ramstad is a superb public servant who is way too good for the Repub label right now.
I would not only vote for him, but I’d HELP in any way I could.
On the other hand, if candidates like Ramstad WERE brave enough and could successfully wear the Repub label, it could bring some credibility back to the tarnished party.
Like with the local Green party, that has been taken over by a bunch of cuckoo clocks, I always thought that a political party *IS* whatever the people involved make it to be, so if Ramstad and other top notch folks surfaced then moderate constituents like myself (and C.) could get involved and *be* Repub, again.
