Mullet Like Me

That’s not the best things ever Max…that’s just another example of a hipster co-opting someone elses style in the vain attempt to get attention without having to expend the energy to actually be original.

Hipsters the carrion of culture.

I don’t even know what that last comment means but I do know:

that guy copied a style and a social experiment, and he put it on the internet on the hipster grapevine that is tumblr…so that other people with similar taste could…you know “copy it”

First they took away mustaches, then day-glo colors, know they set their sites on mullets.

When they co-opted the mustaches, I remained silent, because I was did not have a mustache.

Then they co-opted the mullets, and I remained silent, because I did not have a mullet…

Andy this aggression will not stand!

Mr. Gorbachev, cut that hair!

At first the mullet blog seemed like it might be funny. But having read it, it’s not funny at all.

I had the same impression, miller. Had the same feeling reading it as I did seeing Ted Danson in black-face at the Friar’s (who aren’t really known for their cultural sensitivity). Even though Whoopi was in on the joke, it really didn’t feel right.

It would be funny. If this guy were in eighth grade (in 1999).

Ah, the haters! Who would’ve guessed that you’d disapprove of stupid fun?

Playful riffing on culture and class is offensive and off-limits for a young white guy, is it?

In all honesty, it’s just not anything new. The mullet is not a new entity, and riffing on it is just as old. Also, it is (at least in a minor way) offensive, not just a playful riff. The explicit comparison to Black Like Me is ridiculous.

It’s neither groundbreaking nor well thought-out. I have nothing against young white guys (I quite like ‘em, in fact).

I laugh my butt off every time I read this blog.

His playful dance with comparing his mullet struggle with the racism struggle (specifically his mention of black like me) is clearly about his own stupidity and can hardly be seen as offensive. Of course, what do I know?

Its good comedy. I’d recommend checking it out.

Wow thats a new spam scripting technique I have not seen. Regurgitate the first comment of a thread then add 1 sentence and a linkdrop.

Interesting…good thing he added the salutation or I might have been offended ;)

I prefer something called Markov chaining, where spammers use a program to take older comments and construct a new comment out of them, which superficially looks like it might be real, but, when you read closer, makes no sense at all.
