Minnesota Local Wounded in Texas Military Base Shooting

Sadly, the death toll has risen to 13 overnight.

This is such a sad and horrible story. Thoughts and prayers with the families.

I originally had orders to go to Ft. Hood after completing AIT, they were changed at the last moment and I ended up at Ft. Belvoir in northern Virginia.

A good take (from NPR) on how “the incident inspired an all-too-predictable outbreak of Islamophobia”: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=120161052

It’s too early to say “why.” Fox News and the righty-tighty bloggers may be correct in their assumptions. Then again, they may be wrong. Give the investigators some time.

That said, it wasn’t Mormons who planned and executed 9-11, as well as so many other attacks (usually against fellow Muslims) around the globe.

What we DON’T want to do is to question the patriotism or motives of all Muslims in the U.S. Armed Forces (as well as Muslim members of government, teachers, police officers, firefighters, doctors, etc.) because of the actions of this one man. And yes, some people will go there. In fact, I’m sure they already have.

It wasn’t necessarily Muslims, either, that blew up a building in OKC or set off a bomb during the Atlanta Olympics. Or kill doctors who perform abortions. Or murder radio talk show hosts.

Like I’ve said many times before: It’s not the faith but the dogma that drive people to do murderous and violent things in the name of religion.

Gawker.com has an enlightening take on the repercussions of the Ft. Hood shootings: How the Ft. Hood Shooter Brings Radical Clerics and Right-Wing Nuts Together.

But, y’know, I guess it’s just “muslin turrists” that fly off the handle over religious dogmatic principles.
